Student Wellbeing
At Dixons Unity Academy, it is our mission to support all of our students to flourish and lead happy, purposeful lives. However, recent statistics show that many young people struggle with their social, emotional and mental wellbeing, or other needs or disabilities. The NSPCC learning hub contains a list of common warning signs that suggest a young person may be struggling emotionally. These are:
- sudden mood and behaviour changes
- self-harming
- unexplained physical changes such as weight loss or gain
- sudden poor academic behaviour or performance
- sleeping problems
- changes in social habits including becoming withdrawn or avoiding friends
However, they recommend that families do not diagnose mental health issues themselves or make assumptions about what could be happening. There could be a number of explanations for these issues.
At Dixons Unity Academy, students can also self-refer to the wellbeing team for additional support. All they need to to do is email wellbeing@dixonsua.com. They do not need to give full details of their issue. A member of our wellbeing team will make contact with the student to provide support and guidance.
