Information regarding Government changes to free school meals

Dear families

I write to you with an important update from the Government regarding free school meal allowance.

As of Monday 31 March 2025, the free school meal transitional protection will end.  This means that anyone eligible for free school meals up to 31 March 2025 will be protected until the end of that phase of education, regardless of any changes in circumstances.  Anyone that becomes eligible for free school meals as of 1 April 2025, will be subject to review and should they no longer meet the criteria will be removed from free school meals. 

If you believe that your child may be entitled to free school meals, please make your application prior to 31 March 2025.  Should your application be successful this will be backdated to the date of your application and will secure your child’s free school meal allowance to the end of their time in secondary education.  You can apply directly with Leeds City Council using the link https://www.leeds.gov.uk/schools-and-education/apply-for-free-school-meals
