Cycle 3 Assessments - Year 10

Posted 20th May 2024

Dear families

Thank you to all of you that were able to join us at our revision evening on May 13. We hope you found the strategies, resources and advice from Heads of Department useful. If you and your child were unable to attend, please ensure that your child collects a revision schedule from their form tutor, and revision resources and advice from their teachers.

From the Monday 3 June 2024, Year 10 students will be sitting their Cycle 3 assessments. These will be conducted as mock examinations, and we will expect your child to follow exam regulations in the exam hall. This means that they must enter in silence and not communicate with other students throughout, ensure they do not have any electronic devices or pieces of paper on their person, no writing on their skin, and have removed the label from their water bottle.

This will help prepare your child for sitting their formal examinations successfully in Year 11. Some assessments will also take place in classrooms. Your child has already received their exam timetable and will be issued with another next week. Please see below for an overview of Cycle 3 assessment dates which are taking place in the Main Hall:

  • Monday 3 June (PM): English Literature (1hr 45mins)
  • Wednesday 5 June (PM): English Language (1hr 45mins)
  • Friday 7 June (AM): Biology (1hr 15mins)
  • Tuesday 11 June (AM): Spanish Reading (1hr)
  • Wednesday 12 June (AM): Maths P1 (1hr 30mins)
  • Thursday 13 June (AM): Chemistry (1hr 15mins)
  • Thursday 13 June (PM): Spanish Writing (1hr 15mins)
  • Friday 14 June (AM): Spanish Listening (45 mins)
  • Wednesday 19 June (PM): Physics (1hr 15mins)
  • Thursday 20 June (AM): Geography (1hr 30mins)
  • Friday 21 June (AM): Maths P2 (1hr 30mins)
  • Friday 21 June (PM): RE (1hr 45mins)

In order to support your child in being successful in these important assessments please:

  • Reiterate the importance of attending punctually every day to ensure no lessons or assessments are missed
  • Remind your child to complete all homework to the best of their ability and on time
  • Encourage and support your child to revise following the schedule, using past papers, revision websites signposted by their teachers, the Knowledge Organisers in their planners and other revision materials that they have been given

You can also support your child by ensuring they have an early night before an assessment, that they have breakfast (using our breakfast club if they wish) and take in a bottle of water for the academy day / assessments. The weather can be warm at this time of year, and it is important that your child is comfortable and hydrated.

  • Once the assessments have been marked, your child’s teacher will give feedback lessons on the assessment, and record a question level analysis, which will feed into planning, lesson delivery and interventions. You will also receive a Cycle Three report via the MCAS app.

If you have any queries about the upcoming assessments, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Yours faithfully

Mrs K Paddy
