Nick O'Brien


Assistant Vice Principal

Nick grew up in Halifax and attended Calder High Secondary school where he completed his O Levels and A Levels. He went to Leeds Trinity and All Saints to study Physical Education and Teaching in 1988, and has never left Leeds . After qualifying in 1992 Nick taught in the Catholic sector in Bradford for 11 years before moving over to a Leeds school.

Nick took up post at West Leeds High school in September 2003, and since that day has remained committed to the students and community of this area. His roles have included Head of Department, Head of Year, Assistant Principal and most recently acting Vice Principal. He has worked at Leadership level on Behaviour and Wellbeing, Safeguarding, Curriculum and timetabling, Student Progress and Whole school systems and structures.

Along with the students and staff alike, Nick has experienced many changes and challenges in recent years, but believes the students and families that the academy serves deserve the very best education and opportunities available to them. As such, he welcomes the opportunity to be part of the Dixons Unity Leadership team that will strive to enhance the life chances of those living in the West Leeds community.
